Why You’re Still Stuck When It Comes to Buying Property Back Home
Many people in the diaspora dream about owning property back home.
They think about buying land, building a house, creating rental income or finally securing something for their family’s future.
But years pass… and nothing happens.
Not because they’re lazy or because they don’t care.
And often, not even because they lack money.
So what’s really keeping people stuck?
This was one of the biggest conversations that came out of our recent Property Goal Setting Session. And honestly, many people realised they were facing the exact same challenges.
Overwhelm Is Keeping Many People Stuck
One of the biggest mistakes people make is trying to solve everything at once.
They ask themselves; should I buy land first? Should I build immediately? Which area is best? What if I make the wrong decision?
Before long, the whole process starts to feel overwhelming.
And when people feel overwhelmed, they delay taking action. Sometimes for years.
One participant captured it perfectly when they said:
“I can’t do everything but I can do something. Breaking the big dream into small steps makes it digestible.”
That’s the shift many people need to make.
Property ownership doesn’t happen all at once. It usually starts with one clear, manageable step.
Clarity Is What Unlocks Action
A lot of people assume motivation is what they need.
But motivation comes and goes. Clarity is what actually moves people forward.
During the session, we encouraged participants to break down their property goals into smaller, more practical decisions.
For some people, the first step wasn’t building a dream house.
It was simply understanding their budget, deciding what kind of property they actually wanted or asking themselves an important question:
“Do I want an asset… or just another stressful project?”
Once people gained clarity, the process immediately started to feel more achievable.
Social Media Has Made People Feel Behind
Another issue quietly affecting many people today is comparison.
Social media constantly shows luxury homes, expensive lifestyles and overnight success stories. Without realising it, many people begin to feel like if they can’t do something “big,” then there’s no point starting at all.
But property wealth is usually built slowly.
Brick by brick.vvStep by step.
Most successful property journeys don’t begin with mansions. They begin with one intentional decision that’s followed through consistently over time.
Anti-Goals Helped People Think Differently
One of the most powerful exercises during the session involved Anti-Goals.
Instead of only asking:
“What do I want to achieve?”
We also asked:
“What do I want to avoid?”
This challenged people to think differently.
For some, it meant avoiding the habit of buying multiple plots without developing any of them. For others, it meant avoiding projects that create stress instead of value or financial pressure that destroys peace of mind.
Sometimes knowing what you don’t want creates just as much clarity as knowing what you do want.
You Don’t Need To Feel Ready
One participant said something that resonated deeply with the room:
“You can never be ready to make the first step to property investment. So do it scared if you have to.”
And honestly, that’s true.
There will probably never be a perfect time.
There’ll always be uncertainty. There’ll always be risk and reasons to wait.
But momentum only starts when action begins.
Even if the first step feels small.
Final Thoughts
One of the biggest breakthroughs people had during the session wasn’t financial.
It was mental.
They realised they didn’t need to do everything at once. They weren’t alone in their fears. And their goals were far more achievable than they had convinced themselves.
Property ownership back home doesn’t happen through wishful thinking alone.
It happens through clarity, consistency, realistic planning and the willingness to take the first step.
